Our BAP Disability Network held its last quarterly meeting in June at RehabCare Bray. As well as sharing information on how we can all work together more effectively to meet the needs of people with disabilities in the local area, members discussed:
- Following up on the network's recent speed lobby of local election candidates with another meeting with elected councillors to discuss what effective actions can be taken at a local level to address issues raised at the speed lobby;
- The shape and content of more Disability Awareness Workshops in local schools in the autumn, involving young adults with disabilities presenting and facilitating.
- Local issues for people with disabilities – such as the lack of QQI Level 3 and 4 courses; barriers to getting a job; accessibility; and post-school transition planning for learners – and what actions the network can take to address them;
- Completing input into, and launching, the new Disability Bray website.
