Disability Awareness Workshops in schools

Our Disability Network ran a Disability Awareness Workshop in February 2018 for a group of wonderful Transition Year Students in Woodbrook College.

The students got to learn more about disabilities in an engaging presentation from Laura English from Disability Federation of Ireland.

They learned some Irish Sign Language from Alice Jackman (who is a service-user at RehabCare Bray) and learned a bit about Alice's life story.

They played the game of Mythbusters with Shay Hiney (from National Learning Network) - with some disagreement on what really was Truth or Myth!

Finally they worked in groups to explore scenarios such as: "I'm 19. I love music and want to go to Electric Picnic for the weekend with my friends. As a wheelchair user, what do I need to think about?"

Thanks to Woodbrook, and especially to the students, Mr. Johnston and Mr. O'Brien for such a wonderful welcome.

We'll be running more of these workshops in other local schools in the coming months.
