Our Fáilte Isteach conversational English classes have started up again in Bray and Kilcoole.
Classes are free (but a €3 donation towards costs is requested) and take place through friendly small group conversations, facilitated by volunteer tutors - on Wednesday mornings in Kilcoole Community Centre, Wednesday evenings in St. Peter’s Parish Centre in Bray, and Thursday mornings in St. Kilian’s Community School in Bray.
Fáilte Isteach Bray & Kilcoole is part of a national Third Age Ireland initiative – the idea is that people volunteer their time to teach practical conversational English to people from other countries who live and work in their community. Improving their English helps students to participate more fully in society, take part in further education and gain employment. The word Fáilte describes the spirit of the project – welcome to our community. There are also regular talks from different services that provide supports in the local community.
This work is resourced by the government’s Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) 2018-22, funded by the Irish Government through the Department of Rural and Community Development and co-funded by the European Social Fund under the Programme for Employability, Inclusion and Learning (PEIL) 2014-2020.
