End-of-term celebrations for our conversational English classes

Learners and tutors with certificates at the end of their first term at the County Wicklow Lawn Tennis Club

Our Fáilte Isteach conversational English classes in the County Wicklow Lawn Tennis Club celebrated the end of their first term recently with a presentation of certificates to learners.

Over the past few months, an average of 37 learners and 22 volunteer tutors have attended every week to meet with others and take part in free conversational English classes in an informal, friendly cafe-style setting.  Participants have included both Ukrainian refugees and people from other countries living in our local community. As well as the social aspect, improving their English helps learners take part more fully in society and in further education and employment.

Fáilte Isteach is a national Third Age Ireland initiative where people from local communities volunteer their time to teach practical conversational English to people from other countries who live in their community.

Bray Area Partnership runs a number of these classes in different venues in the local community, working in cooperation with other local groups, and also online. Our thanks to the County Wicklow Lawn Tennis Club for providing their wonderful space for these Bray classes.

Our Fáilte Isteach initiative is resourced through our SICAP programme.
